Empowering Young Mothers, One Goat at a Time
At the heart of the TeenMum Goat Revolving Project is a simple yet powerful idea: transforming lives through the gift of a goat. This initiative supports teenage mothers many of whom face social stigma, economic hardship, and limited opportunities by providing them with a goat as a source of income, nutrition, and empowerment.
Each young mother receives training in basic animal husbandry, gaining skills in goat care, feeding, shelter maintenance, and disease prevention. As the goats multiply, so do the benefits. Participants are encouraged to pass on the first female offspring of their goat to another teen mother, creating a chain of empowerment and fostering a sense of responsibility and solidarity within the community.
By combining livestock management with mentorship and peer support, this project not only promotes economic independence but also restores dignity and hope to young women navigating motherhood under difficult circumstances. The TeenMum Goat Revolving Project is more than an agricultural initiative—it’s a grassroots movement to uplift vulnerable young women and create lasting change in rural communities.
Together, we’re building resilience, one goat and one empowered mother at a time. Read More...
Young Africa Works Initiative
Creating Opportunities for Uganda’s Youth
The Young Africa Works Initiative, funded by the Mastercard Foundation, is designed to unlock the potential of young people in Uganda by equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to thrive in today’s economy. Through this transformative program, we are empowering youth especially young women to find dignified and fulfilling work.
Our nonprofit is implementing this initiative in partnershiop with BrighterMonday by delivering the institution - based soft and employablity skills training, and the community - based entrepreneurship and small business training to thousands of youth across 11 districts in Bugisu Subregion, and parts of Busoga and Bukedi Sub regions. We partner with communities, training institutions, and employers to ensure that young people not only learn but also transition successfully into employment or self-employment.
Together, we’re building a generation that works, leads, and shapes a better future for Uganda.
Our Partnerships: Building the Future, Together
At Edemel Learning Foundation, we believe that meaningful change begins with strategic collaboration. That’s why we have partnered with over 15 institutions including; Allied Health Institutions, Nursing Colleges, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, and Universities across Eastern Uganda to prepare the next generation of professionals for the demands of a rapidly evolving workforce.
These partnerships enable us to deliver targeted soft skills, entrepreneurial mindsets, and practical job-readiness training directly to students pursuing careers in healthcare, technology, education, and beyond. Our joint efforts ensure that learning is not only academic but also grounded in real-world expectations bridging the gap between the classroom and the labor market.
By working hand-in-hand with training institutions, Edemel Learning Foundation is contributing to a national vision of a skilled, empowered, and resilient workforce ready to take on tomorrow’s challenges.
Empowering Education in Eastern Uganda
Edemel was founded in response to persistent educational inequities, and create accessible pathways for learning, growth, and opportunity. Our work is driven by the belief that education is not just a right, for personal and professional development, especially for marginalized and underserved communities, but rather a catalyst for lasting social change. Inspired by Nelson Mandela's vision of education as the most powerful weapon to change the world, Edemel harnesses the power of bottom-up innovation, problem-solving, and community leadership to address the structural barriers to quality learning access.
